Scrapping for Less Flavor of the Month – “Arctic Animals” Blog Hop

December Card Kit

December’s kit is all about Arctic Animals…Now if you are anything like me, you hate the cold weather, snow, and anything that would mean being cold. However, snow and these cute little critters in this kit are all about fun! So grab your warm beverage, sit back, and hop along with us to see these adorable critters and all the inspiration our designers have to share. Check out the Flavor of the Month page to place your order if you haven’t subscribed. Also, don’t forget to check the A La Carte items (items that are leftover (full packs and such) from putting the kits together, and other items that we have on the website that may coordinate with this kit. Make sure you also put your name in for that Rafflecopter prize!
December Double DipDecember Banana Split
I had so much fun with this month’s Scrapping for Less Flavor of the Month Card Kit.  Flavor of the Month Kits have 1 of two levels you can choose from – Double Dip and Banana Split.   In the pictures above you can see the breakdown of what you can expect in each of the levels so you can choose a level that will work for you.
Did you know you can add on to the kit?  Check out the A La Carte section for coordinating products you can add to  your order.
Scrapping for Less also provides a monthly Sketch Sheet for card ideas.  You can download those over on the Scrapping for Less Website and click on the Downloads tab.
Here are the 4 cards – 1 from each kit – that I made for the blog hop!
Card 1, Collection 1, Sketch 4
bear1A
bear2A
This sweet bear from the Sunny Studio stamp set “Bear Hugs” is so darn cute!!  I stamped him with Extreme Black ink from My Favorite Things and colored him with Copic Markers.  I followed the sketch closely on this card and cut down some of my favorite pieces of the “Winter Skies” pattern paper Scrapping for Less.
Copic Colors:
Bear:  W0, W2, W4
Scarf:  V17, V25
Card 2, Collection 2, Sketch 2
Penguin1APenguin2A
When I saw this adorable penguin, I automatically thought f my sister and how much she would LOVE this card.  She loves penguins and every time I see one, I think of her and smile.  The making of this card taught me to make sure I look at the sketch carefully before just putting it together (I needed to pull a few things apart….hehe – we’ve all done that. Right?)
For this card I stamped the image with Extreme Black ink from My Favorite Things and then colored the image with a combination of Copic Markers and Spectrum Noir markers.  They are both alcohol based and I have found they work together well enough for me.  The papers in this collection are gorgeous but they are so close in color I backed the different pieces with some black card stock so each pattern would shine.
The stamp set in this collection is “Penguin with Mug” by Stamping Bella and the double sided pattern paper is from Scrapping for Less named “Chill”.
Copic Colors / Spectrum Noir (sn) markers used:
Penguin:  C3 , C5  IG6 (sn), Nose/Feet G5 (sn) Belly W0, W2
I found the black area for the penguin is so small there really was no                                     space to try to shade (at lease for my skill level) and I would just use 1                                     marker next time.
Scarf/Hat:  V02, V17, V25, W2
Cup/Marshmallows:  B41, B45, C1
Card 3, Collection 3, Sketch 1
Arctic Friends1AArctic Friends2A
How CUTE are these Arctic Animals?!  I do not usually create scenes with stamps but the stamp set that comes in Collection 3 gave inspiration to create one and I am so happy with the result.  I’m definitely going to do this again in the future and expand my imagination!  I stamped the mountain range that comes in the stamp set, the penguin and the polar bear.
I stamped the mountain range a little off the piece so it wasn’t so perfectly centered.  I used a piece of full stick post it so I could mask off the first stamped image to stamp another mountain range to the other side to make it look a little more “natural”.  I then stamped both the animals.
This collection features products from Pink and Main.  The stamp set is “Winter Pals” and the double sided pattern paper is “Frosty”
I used Copic and Spectrum Noir markers to color the scene and added a little Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink for the sky.  Once the scene was done drying I used a white gel pen and added little white dots over the entire scene to make it look like it was snowing.
Copic / Spectrum Noir (sn) Markers used:
Mountains:  C1, C3
Penguin:  IG8 (sn) G5(sn) V17, V00, W2
Polar Bear:  W0, W2, W4
Ground area under animals:  B06 then went over it with colorless blender
Card 4, Collection 4, Sketch 1
fox1AFox2A
This loving image of a mama fox and her baby was the product of me experimenting with coloring.  I don’t know what I think of it yet, but I went with it.  Isn’t that what creativity is all about – experimenting and going with it?
I stamped out the image using Extreme Blank ink by My Favorite things and colored with both Copic and Spectrum Noir markers.  I followed the sketch and cut down the different pieces of pattern paper.  I used the largest of the Jolee Snowflake embellishments that we receive in this collection to finish my card.
Both the stamp set and the pattern paper are both from LDRS.  The stamp set is called “Arctic Animals” and the single sided pattern paper is called “Arctic Snowfall” – SO Beautiful!!!
I colored the foxes with the following colors in no particular order:
E000, E33, G5(sn), E39, C5, E15, 0 (colorless blender)
I usually end the post with a picture of all 4 cards together but in all the excitement of Christmas week I forgot!!
Thank You So Much for stopping by!!
